The Green gourmet challenge

The 1st Edition of the Green Gourmet Cooking Challenge took place at the Ekatva Festival 2023 on 15th October at New Delhi. For Round 1, the participants brought a home-cooked vegan dish that was judged by Chef Priya Vijan on 4 criteria – Presentation, Taste, Uniqueness and the Thought behind the dish.

The top scorers were selected for the final round – the mystery box round! Cooking contestants were put to the test as they prepared unique dishes from a mystery box in just 55 minutes. Can you imagine the pressure of the ticking clock?

We had an enthralling session by Mrs. Sangeeta Bahl, the oldest Indian Woman to scale Mt. Everest, an informal fireside chat on the basics of living compassionately with Mr. Robin Singh, co-founder of Peepal Farm, a presentation on the inspiration behind starting an animal sanctuary cum agricultural farm by Mrs. Aparna Rajagopal, co-founder of Beejom Animal Sanctuary and Agricultural Farm, debunking fashion myths and greenwashing by Miss Shreya Ghodawat, co-founder of Meat Less, Meet More, how to optimise health on a plant-based diet by Mr. Vaibhav Garg, Sports Nutritionist for IPL and Super Boxing League, to name a few.

The evening was a melodious affair, with two of India’s rising artists, Ishaan Krishan and Akshita Mengi serenaded the crowd with their originals and covers. People danced, clapped, cheered, and sang along, as our collective consciousness – or ‘ekatva’ – was felt by everyone experiencing the music together.

All day long, attendees strolled and browsed through the stalls. From hemp tshirts and cruelty-free leather bags to tarot reader and face painting artists, from 360 degree rotating camera and spin the wheel to a softy vending machine and a shaded seating area for a short break, there was something for everyone.
